Theatre Guild Members Requirements

General Membership

1. Membership is a volunteer position for people who have an interest in theatre or in the Wieting Theatre as a local historical treasure.

2. Must uphold the purpose of the Guild, which is to maintain the Theatre in a working state.

3. Must participate to the best of their ability in various fund-raising projects to raise money for the maintenance of the Wieting Theatre. Projects include:

  • Showing Weekend Movies
  • Producing or Hosting Live Music and Stage Performances
  • Presentations of requests for grants or gifts from various venues

To meet the above requirements a Guild member:

1. Must be available to monitor movies, one night of three, two of every three weekends,

2. Must attend the monthly Theatre Guild meeting, and

3. Must hold one of 9 jobs which make it possible to do the job of maintaining the Theatre.

The jobs are assigned or are voted by the Guild.

A. Chair: Voted to this position., chairs meetings, casts tie-breaking votes, books movies, sees first run movies and checks reviews, liaisons with film companies and distributors, is available for people to consult about rental contracts, special uses of the theatre, sets calendar of scheduled special events. The chair has special responsibility for the theatre operations and may call special meetings and survey the members by phone for emergency votes. The chair also acts as liaison between the Theatre Guild and the Board of Trustees and the Toledo City Council.

B. Treasurer: banks money from movies and other fund raisers, sees that cash start-up money  is  available for the movies and concession,  keeps the movie and concession account book, gets  deposit  slips to the General Treasurer, calls movie companies with each weeks ticket numbers, an provides a report at the monthly meeting.

C. Secretary:  Takes and keeps minutes over all guild meetings,  reads minutes at monthly meeting, notifies members of special plans at the request of the chair.

D. Projectionists: Arranges for  recruitment and training of new projectionists, either high school students or adults.  Mediates problems within that area.

E. Maintenance: Checks on general upkeep of the inside of the Theatre, reports on needs at the monthly meeting, may set a work night for upkeep, may make simple repairs, as change light bulbs.

F. Concessions: Checks each week on the candy, popcorn, oil, sacks, Pepsi products and places orders for what will be needed for the next week.

G. Scheduling: Schedules guild members, projectionists, concession workers, ticket sellers and ticket takers several weeks at a time, types up the schedule and mails to to all who are scheduled to work.

H. Special Projects:  Completes plans for special events as assigned by the chair, recruits others to assist if needed.  Reports status  to the chair and and at the monthly meetings.

I. Social Secretary: Designs, writes and mails Wieting Theatre Thank You Cards to all who donate time, money, goods and services to our operations and projects.
